Male infertility concern is on the rise. Having poor sperm quality or ejaculation-related issues is making the process of conceiving naturally difficult.
Fortunately, with advancements in science, infertility problems do not prevent you from conceiving a child of your own with your partner. There are
procedures and therapies that can raise the likelihood of your conception.
Male infertility is a concern associated with the reproductive system that stops men from impregnating a female even after repeated unprotected sex for a year.
Poor semen parameters like low sperm counts or semen quality indicating male infertility can be due to factors like illness, fever, infections, stress,
or unhealthy food habits, or may be due to some conditions like trauma or local dilation of veins that affects the functions of the testes to produce sperms.
Varicocele, a localized enlargement of the testicular veins, can raise body temperature, reducing sperm production. Stress and other factors can occasionally
prevent the brain hormones from acting as a stimulus to release sperms.
Male suffering from infertility may experience symptoms like sexual dysfunction, reduced sexual desire, difficulty maintaining erection, recurrent respiratory
infection, pain or swelling in the testicle area, abnormal breast growth, decreased facial or hair growth, or abnormally low sperm count.
A thorough physical examination is the first step in the diagnosis to determine your general health and identify any medical issues that may influence your fertility. Reproduction specialists at the infertility center may ask you and your partner questions about your sexual preferences. Along with physical examination and medical history, doctors may also recommend you undergo tests for detailed sperm analysis to rule out the cause of infertility.
With the development of science and technology, several treatment options are available to overcome male infertility. The following therapies can be taken into consideration depending on the underlying cause of infertility:
In case of hormone deficiency, hormone replacement therapy may be considered to increase the hormone (hCG and FSH) level responsible for sperm production. It takes around 3 months for the therapy to show the result.
Doctors may recommend a corrective lifestyle plan for males to reduce weight, avoid stress, exercise regularly, choose a diet rich in antioxidants, and prevent tobacco or alcohol consumption.
When testis veins are dilated, varicocelectomy surgery is performed. This lowers the elevated local temperature of the testis, boosting the generation of sperm. In case of clogging in the vas deferens, the vasectomy reversal procedure is opted to revive the vas deferens tube in the scrotum for easy passage of sperm.
